GoBoard is a collaborative research and tutoring platform, utilized by hundreds of universities and other organizations. GoBoard works with researchers to help advance the collective understanding of cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, tutoring efficacy, foundational contributors to student success, and more. State, federal, and philanthropic grants for research studies also help offset the costs of running (and constantly improving) GoBoard.
The benefits of this research is manifold: researchers can see how we learn, teach, engage with material, and how various interventions and tools can help make the learning process better for all students. This is also an understudied part of teaching and learning. While there has been research into classroom engagement, teaching, and even tutoring, online learning and engagement is a relatively new field. Learning has been described as a “black box”; we hope to enable research that helps open that black box.
In order to provide data for research into technology’s impact on student learning — tutor chat bots, virtual reality interfaces, the overall efficacy of tutoring, “just-in-time” interventions, student-instructor style matching, and much more — all GoBoard sessions are recorded, and in some cases, provided to researchers for studies around education and student learning. Researchers are affiliated with non-profit, fully accredited universities. Your name, email address, and username will never be disclosed. Research findings will be used to further improve not only GoBoard, but the field of teaching and learning in general, and online tutoring specifically.
There is no risk to users, as data is fully anonymized. Human subjects cannot be identified directly or through identifiers linked to the subjects and users will not be at risk of criminal or civil liability or face damage to financial standing, employability, or reputation.
